Safety & Security

The safety of our students, staff, and visitors is a top priority. We are committed to providing a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment through planning, ongoing training, and partnerships with local law enforcement and emergency responders. Our district regularly reviews and updates safety procedures, conducts drills, and utilizes security measures designed to protect our schools. We also encourage families and community members to partner with us by reporting concerns and staying informed about out safety practices and procedures. Working together, we can ensure our schools remain safe places for learning and growth.

Safety & Security Meetings

Every public school district must establish a School Safety and Security Committee in accordance with guidelines from the Texas School Safety Center.

Safety and Security Committee should include:

  • Representatives from local emergency management offices
  • Local police or sheriff’s office representatives
  • District police/security staff (if applicable)
  • District leadership including the board president, another trustee, and the superintendent
  • Superintendent’s designees (including a classroom teacher)

The committee must meet at least once each academic semester and once during the summer.

If the district operates on a year-round or alternative schedule, it must meet at least three times each calendar year with at least two months between meetings.

Important Safety Notices

  • Under Texas law (Educ. Code § 37.218), our district must inform you annually of the serious consequences of sharing visual material that depicts a minor engaged in sexual conduct.

    Legal consequences may include:

    • Criminal charges – including misdemeanors or felonies – for transmitting, possessing or promoting such images or videos.
    • School disciplinary actions – including removal from programs or extracurricular activities, suspension, expulsion or transfer.
    • Long-term impacts – such as loss of educational and employment opportunities, permanent online record of the material, and exposure beyond the original audience (due to the nature of the Internet).

    Students and parents should understand:

    • “Visual material” includes photos, videos or other electronic images that depict sexual conduct or intimate parts of a minor.
    • Consent of the depicted person, or of the recipient, does not always offer legal protection.
    • The material may be shared, forwarded or replicated widely and cannot always be retracted.

If you have questions or believe a student has been involved in such sharing, please contact your campus administrator immediately.

  • Texas law now requires school districts to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. The attached information will help you learn about options for, as well as how to talk to your child and others about, the safe storage of firearms. Please read the attached letter for more information.
